A day in Kyoto’s Arashiyama District is not complete without a walk through the bamboo groves. Winding paths cut their way through a dream-like landscape and looking up you’ll see stalks gently swaying in the breeze. Photographers can find the groves to be a challenge. A lot of people and lack of light can be frustrating for those of us looking for the perfect shot. You’ll want to bring a tripod and walk to the very end of the path where there are fewer tourists.

How to get there:
From Kyoto Station, I would recommend taking the JR Sagano (Rapid Service) Line. A one-way ticket to Saga-Arashiyama Station costs 240 yen and takes approximately 15 minutes.
